Determinants of Farmers’ Behavior towards Land Conservation Practices in the Upper Citarum Watershed in West Java, Indonesia

Erosion and pollution in the Citarum River have reached a very worrying stage. To overcome this problem, government has launched Harum program. One of policies synergistic with program is application soil water conservation principles farming seasonal crops upper watershed (UCW). Historically, programs for developing pro-conservation area been carried out at least three decades but not effective. Increasing effectiveness requires existence suitable instruments. Therefore, it necessary to comprehensive in-depth understanding attitudes behavior farmers applying conservation. This study aims identify factors influencing farmers’ probabilities participation techniques. A double-hurdle approach used determinants intensity practices. The data were collected from samples 244 farm households’ growing 499 households sample Bandung West Districts. results show that farmer lie ability finance, land tenure utilization, physical condition land. level education only affects opportunities, even if increment significant. In future, priorities must be more directed vegetative through perennial particular efforts convert vegetables on sloping lands crops.
